Additive Manufacturing: Corrosion Proofing by Infusion of Interstitial Solute—Exemplified for Alloy 22

چکیده

The corrosion resistance of Cr-containing alloy parts made by additive manufacturing can be significantly improved a post-treatment gas-phase-based infusion concentrated interstitial solute (carbon and nitrogen). We demonstrate this universal approach for the example low-temperature nitrocarburization solid-reagent pyrolysis applied to Alloy 22 (UNS N06022) laser powderbed fusion. show that improves crevice-corrosion these parts, as well corresponding from wrought surpass maximum crevice test temperature specified in ASTM G48-D, whereas non-treated samples typically fail below. Similarly, cyclic potentiodynamic polarization testing (ASTM G61-86) demonstrates makes additively manufactured more corrosion-resistant than alloy.

Mitigation of Corrosion on Magnesium Alloy by Predesigned Surface Corrosion

Rapid corrosion of magnesium alloys is undesirable in structural and biomedical applications and a general way to control corrosion is to form a surface barrier layer isolating the bulk materials from the external environment. Herein, based on the insights gained from the anticorrosion behavior of corrosion products, a special way to mitigate aqueous corrosion is described. The concept is based...

Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing of AZ31 Magnesium Alloy: Grain Refinement by Adjusting Pulse Frequency

Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) offers a potential approach to fabricate large-scale magnesium alloy components with low cost and high efficiency, although this topic is yet to be reported in literature. In this study, WAAM is preliminarily applied to fabricate AZ31 magnesium. Fully dense AZ31 magnesium alloy components are successfully obtained. Meanwhile, to refine grains and obtain go...

High-Temperature Oxidation of Fe3Al Intermetallic Alloy Prepared by Additive Manufacturing LENS

The isothermal oxidation of Fe-28Al-5Cr (at%) intermetallic alloy microalloyed with Zr and B (<0.08 at%) in air atmosphere, in the temperature range of 1000 to 1200 °C, was studied. The investigation was carried out on the thin-walled (<1 mm) elements prepared by Laser Engineered Net Shaping (LENS) from alloy powder of a given composition. Characterization of the specimens, after the oxidation,...
